The Napa River Ecology Center is excited to launch a new trail camera monitoring program to help us discover who we share this beautiful landscape with. While we often see a few familiar faces around the property, a whole world of wildlife is active when people aren’t around.
Our trail cameras are already giving us a glimpse into the lives of local residents, including raccoons, opossums, deer, coyotes, skunks, and a variety of birds. As the project grows, we hope to use these cameras and other monitoring tools to better understand animal movement, bird activity, insect populations, and even changing tide conditions along the river.
Monitoring wildlife is about more than capturing interesting photos. It helps us learn how animals use urban and natural spaces, identify important habitat areas, and better understand the health of our local ecosystem. The Napa River Ecology Center sits at the intersection of wild habitat and developed neighborhoods, making it an ideal place to study how wildlife adapts and thrives in a shared community.
By documenting the species that live here, we can strengthen our conservation efforts, inform environmental education programs, and inspire a deeper appreciation for the natural world just outside our doors.
We look forward to sharing some of our favorite trail camera discoveries with you. Stay tuned to see who wanders past the camera next!
