Mustard Flower Hike – NEW DATE

Due to current trail conditions, the Mustard Flower Hike has been postponed. The new date is Saturday, March 29th!

The wildflowers are in full bloom! Join the Parks Foundation for a guided hike with our staff naturalist at Newell Open Space to observe & discuss the important role pollinators have in populating the hillside plant community.

The Newell loop trail is a 4.5 mile loop with approximately 600 feet of elevation change. Hikers will enjoy sweeping views of the Bay and the beautiful rolling green hills of the Newell Preserve. Trails can be uneven, hikers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, dress in layers (long pants are encouraged), pack sunscreen, water and bug spray.

  • Pack binoculars & walking sticks if you have them
This hike is weather-dependent and subject to Newell Open Space closures due to weather. Visit @newellopenspaceamericancanyon for updates on current trail conditions. For general information and trail maps please visit
